PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS - SCLEROTHERAPY
For 24 hours before the procedure
stop using all moisturizing lotions.
Wear shorts the day of the procedure.
Please purchase a pair of support hose and
bring them on the day of the procedure. (These are to be worn for 24 hours
following the procedure)
Do not plan on strenuous activities the day of
the procedure such as aerobics, running, shopping, etc.
medical procedures have some side effects. Fortunately with our current
sclerotherapy technique, side effects are minimal. Side effects that may
occasionally occur are:
Leg cramps at the time of injections.
These are usually of short duration.
· Bruises at injection sites. These usually
occur within the first few days and they usually fade over a few weeks, and can
persist for up to six months, but are almost never permanent.
· Slough or small sore or ulcer at the site
of injection. This only very rarely happens when the sclerosing agent leaks out
of the vein into the skin. These typically heal without problems, but if deep,
they can result in scarring.
· Thrombophlebitis (blood clots and inflammation of
the vein). This is unusual. If you have a history of thrombophlebitis you are
not a candidate for sclerotherapy.
