Moisturizing Creams
“The best time to apply a moisturizer is after bathing while the skin is still damp. If you towel off completely dry before application you will not get as nice an effect as if the skin is damp. If you have excess water, towel off after the moisturizer is applied. Most use moisturizers twice a day but you can use it more often if needed.” Dr. M.
Dr. Meisenheimer’s Favorites
“There are hundreds of moisturizers available. I have listed below some of my favorite recommendations for special uses. For others that are available through my web store click here for a complete list” Dr. M.
Special Uses
Daily Facial Use
“You will notice all my favorites have sunscreens in them, but if you are going to be in the sun for any length of time I recommend higher SPFs than are in these moisturizers (Sunscreen Recommendations). These moisturizers can all be applied before makeup”. Dr. M.
Revision – Anti-Oxidant Daily Protectant Oil-Free
Catrix 5 – Rejuvenation Cream
DDF – Luminous Moisture Shelter SPF 15
Very Dry Skin
“These have a slightly thicker consistency on the skin than some of the other moisturizers”
Dr. M.
Blue Lizard Sorbolene Cream
Elta The Melting Moisturizer
Aquaphor
Biopsy Site Treatment
“Yep, just plain old white Vaseline. I don’t recommend topical antibiotics any more because of the increasingly high rate of contact dermatitis. The infection rate is no worse using this product…and its inexpensive too” Dr. M.
Vaseline White Petroleum Jelly
Thick Skin/Cracked skin
“Very nice for thick skin on the palms and soles, it softens the skin leading to less fissuring and cracking. This can also help on plaques that have thick scale and tend to crack” Dr. M.
Ureacin-20 Creme
Oily skin
“OK the fact is most people with oily skin don’t need a moisturizer, but some do have combination skin and these are useful hydrators for those that have an oil problem” Dr. M.
Murasome Cellular Serum
Revision – Hydrating Gel
General Use
“A couple of nice low cost general use moisturizers” Dr. M.
Vanicream Lite Skin Care Lotion
Elta Lite
Itchy/Irritated Dry Skin
“For itchy skin needing immediate relief try the Prax or Pramoxine. For dry irritated skin try the SBR Lipocream “. Dr. M.
Prax Lotion
Pramoxine anti-itch Lotion
SBR-Lipocream
Aged Dry Skin/Winter Skin
“90% of those over 65 have some degree of dry skin that can be improved with moisturizers. I like the lactrex because the lactic acid can help improve the stratum corneum (outermost skin layer) so it doesn’t allow for as much evaporation which is the source of the dryness” Dr. M.
Lactrex 12% Moisturizing cream
SBR-Lipocream
ExCel Barrier Moisturizer
Night Creams
“Last time I checked there was no law preventing you from using a day cream at night….I know, I know some use sunscreens or lighter creams during the day so if you want a nice night cream try these… and if you use it during the day I won’t tell anyone.” Dr. M.
Rejuvenating Cream
Exuviance – Evening Restorative Complex
All Natural
“I’m not convinced your skin really cares, but if you must use all natural products that has almost no preservatives this is for you” Dr. M.
