What is it?

Orlando PYOGENIC GRANULOMA TreatmentsPyogenic Granuloma is a peculiar disorder of the skin. It can occur at any age, but it more commonly occurs in people under the age of thirty and in pregnant women. Typically it appears as a red or violaceous lump on the skin that may easily bleed.

What causes it?

Pyogenic Granuloma are caused by the capillaries (tiny blood vessels in the skin) growing rapidly forming a lump. Dermatologists believe this is an abnormal healing response to a minor skin injury.

Is it dangerous?

For the typical healthy person Pyogenic Granuloma is a harmless disorder. It is not related to cancer and it does not involve internal organs.

Can it be cured?

It is easily cured by removing the growth, but re-growth is not uncommon.

Will it spread?

Pyogenic Granuloma do not spread, but you can have more than one.

Why must it be biopsied?

Occasionally skin cancer mimics a Pyogenic Granuloma, and it can only be diagnosed by microscopic examination.

It is contagious?

Pyogenic Granuloma is not contagious and you can not “catch it” from anyone.
