Orlando Skin Tags Treatment

This patient information and photographs on Orlando Skin Tags Treatment, Acrochordons is provided by John L. Removal of skin tags are one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures by our patients in this office.

Skin tags (acrochordons) are small, unsightly, growths of skin that individuals develop around the eyelids, neck, armpits, and the groin areas. Typically they look like small little balls of skin attached to the body by a thin stalk. The medical name is acrochordon or fibroepithelial polyp. They are largely harmless and with the exception of one rare variant are not cancerous.

The tendency to develop skin tags is inherited but being overweight also is a contributing factor. The exact cause is unknown but frictional pressure of skin rubbing skin may be an influence. Skin tags may need treatment if they become inflamed or necrotic but generally they are considered a cosmetic problem.

Insurance companies do not cover the cosmetic removal of skin tags so any treatment would be out of pocket, unless the tags are necrotic or inflamed at the time of the visit. Insurance will generally cover the visit charge for evaluation of the lesions, but once the diagnosis is made they will not pay for treatment.

We remove tags in this office by using special surgical scissors to clip off the tags. The benefits are: there is only minimal discomfort and no anesthesia is required, the healing time is fast, tags are gone at the time of visit, and there is little scarring or discoloration.

Tags that are removed generally do not regrow but new tags will likely form over the years if you have this tendency.

Removal of tags can generally be done during any routine office visit, even if you are being seen for another problem. If you have some aggravating or unsightly tags that you would like to have removed, please let us know and we would be happy to help you.
